Machinability

On the other hand, stainless steel 329 can be welded using standard techniques, including gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), without any preheating.

Cost

Stainless steel 431 is less expensive than stainless steel 329, primarily because of the latter’s higher content of nickel, molybdenum, and nitrogen.
