6 Types of Piping Reducers and Their Uses

A pipe reducer is a type of pipe fitting which helps to join two pipes with varying diameters. Pipe reducers are widely available in a variety of materials as per the demands of industries and are also available in many dimensions.

Types of Reducers

Concentric Reducer

Concentric Reducers are useful for connecting pipes as well as tubes on the same axis. This type of reducer offers an in-line conical passage between different dimensional pressurized pipes. A pipe reducer is available in various specifications, such as a single-diameter change and also in a multiple-diameter change. The pipes cannot appreciate because of what the external arrangement of the pipe reducer seems, but the flow of the pipe is changed by the internal width conical transition arrangement. It can be axially shifted and externally reconfigured to offer more efficient reducer connections.
The concentric reducers are able to connect pipes of varying size, but it has a common centreline. Simply, it is a kind of pipe fitting which has ended with various size to connect pipes with different diameter that connects pipe sections on the same axis. Concentric reducers are manufactured in small as well as large diameters on differing ends which are joined by using a cone-shaped transition section. These concentric reducers are available in the seamless and welded type of construction.

Features of concentric reducers:

  • Concentric reducers will change kindly between the pump and piping.
  • These reducers help to convey slurries and abrasive fluids.
  • These reducers are useful to use in operations where corrosion is present.
  • These reducers are beneficial to use where different ratings and wear protection are required in conveying between flanges
    or pipes.
  • Concentric reducers are perfectly suitable to use in the exclusion of the pump.

Eccentric Reducer

An eccentric reducer type of pipe fitting is produced with the slighter outlet off-centre to the bigger end. This permits it to connect with one side of the inlet. The reducer must be connected conventional side so that it can prevent deceiving air at the pump pressure. These eccentric pipe reducers make the simple connection between pipes of different sizes.

Features of eccentric reducers:

  • This type of reducer helps to connect big pipes with small pipes.
  • These reducers decrease noise and vibration.
  • It requires minimum setting up space.
  • It also absorbs noise which is created by pipe walls and fluid tolerated.
  • It has minimum turbulence entrapment.
  • This type of reducer is utilized with the flat side up in pump pressure to minimize cavitation.

Reducing Cross

A reducing cross is a type of reducer that is used to connect two pipes of different sizes that run in perpendicular directions. The most common type of reducing cross is the eccentric reducer, which has a centerline that is offset from the center of the larger pipe.

Reducing Tee

A reducing tee is a type of reducer that is used to connect three pipes of different sizes, two of which run in the same direction and one of which runs in a perpendicular direction. The most common type of reducing tee is the eccentric reducer, which has a centerline that is offset from the center of the larger pipe.

Reducing Elbow

A reducing elbow is a type of reducer that is used to connect two pipes of different sizes that run in the same direction. The most common type of reducing elbow is the eccentric reducer, which has a centerline that is offset from the center of the larger pipe.

Reducing Coupling

A reducing coupling is a type of reducer that is used to connect two pipes of different sizes that run in the same direction. The most common type of reducing coupling is the eccentric reducer, which has a centerline that is offset from the center of the larger pipe.
