What Is A Flange Coupling And What Types Of Flange Couplings Are There?

Connectors between rotating chutes with two flange arrangements are recognized as flange couplings. Each shaft there’s one of these chutes or flanges fixed to the end. Both flanges are merged together with numerous nuts and screws to complete the power transfer process. Couplings ensure that shafts are not disturbed while carrying out tasks. Flange couplings are valuable for pressurizing piping systems that require the connection of tubing ends or two pipes. Flange couplings usually have very strong connecting methods. There are three types of Coupling Flanges and they are known as:

Marine Flanges

The amount of bolts used is determined by the circumference of the shafts’ surface. It usually has four to twelve bolts, and in this type of flange coupling, lengthened bolts without a head are used to connect the shafts. With the shafts in the marine type, a flange is required.

Protected Flanges

The bulging screws and nuts in these types of flange couplings are sheltered by flanges on both sides of the coupling to make it secure. This type of arrangement aids in the prevention of worker dangers.

Unprotected Flanges

Each shaft is entered in the main flange of an unprotected rib coupling with a security key that adjusts into the keyways of both the shafts and the machine’s essential flange. The flanges are joined together with the help of screws and locks. Three to six screws are used to secure the flanges in this type of coupling. By creating a gap, keyways have the potential to weaken the flange coupling. The keys are balanced at the correct edge along the perimeter of the shafts to eliminate the equivalent.
